When I started Symmetrista, the dream was simple and stubborn at the same time: that one day, a woman with uneven breasts could walk into a bra shop - a real one, with fitters who know what they're doing - and walk out with a bra that was actually made for her body. Not a workaround. Not a removable pad. Not "this is the closest we have."
Today, that shop exists. And it happens to be the most famous bra shop in New York City.
Symmetrista is now stocked at Town Shop, 2270 Broadway, on Manhattan's Upper West Side.
Why Town Shop means so much to us
If you know bras, you know Town Shop. Founded in 1888, it has been fitting women for four generations - long before "bra fitting" was something the rest of the industry talked about.
Their fitters are legendary. They've seen every body, every shape, every story. Women come in for their first bra and come back for every bra after that.
And that's exactly why this partnership means so much to us. Town Shop's fitters know how common breast asymmetry really is - and how few real solutions have existed for it.
Up to one in four women experiences noticeable asymmetry, whether from birth, hormonal changes, breastfeeding, or breast cancer treatment and reconstruction. Most have spent years adjusting straps, shifting pads, and avoiding certain necklines.
What you'll find there
The Symmetrista Signature Bra - the bra that took me over 15 years to bring into the world. From the outside, it looks like any beautifully made classic bra. All the engineering is hidden on the inside, evening out to a 5 cm size difference. You put it on in the morning and forget about it. That's the whole point.
It's designed for every reason breasts can be uneven, including for women who have undergone lumpectomy or mastectomy with reconstruction, and for women who still have some of their natural breast tissue.
Why a physical shop, and why now
Symmetrista was born online, and our online store will always be home. But asymmetry is personal. Many women have never said the words "my breasts are different sizes" out loud to anyone. Being fitted by someone kind and experienced, in a room where nothing about your body is treated as unusual, changes that.
