What it's like to wear a bra made for asymmetrical breasts: a customer story

What it's like to wear a bra made for asymmetrical breasts: a customer story

Last updated: June 2026 · A verified Symmetrista customer story

Breast asymmetry - having breasts of noticeably different sizes - is one of the most common and least-discussed traits women live with.

A Symmetrista bra is built in one piece for asymmetric bodies, with cups that can differ by several centimeters while still looking completely balanced from the outside. Below, one of our lovely clients, a 25-year-old woman, shares what that change has felt like and describes her asymmetry journey.

How common is breast asymmetry?

More common than most women assume. In a UK survey of 740 women aged 18 to 83, conducted by research firm Norstat for Symmetrista, 25% reported breast asymmetry - meaning potentially 2.3 million women in the UK alone could benefit from a bra designed for uneven breasts. Asymmetry can be something you're born with, or it can develop through hormonal changes, pregnancy and breastfeeding, or breast cancer treatment and reconstruction.

For the lovely customer who let us share her story below, it was simply how her body had always been and for years, she had no idea a better solution existed.

Living with uneven breasts

I first noticed it around the age of 19. Looking back, I think it had been affecting me even earlier. I just wasn't aware enough of the asymmetry to connect it with the constant discomfort and the way I felt about how I looked. The difference wasn't that obvious at first, either.

From my teenage years right up until now, I've been aware that my upper body looks different from one side, and that's been genuinely upsetting. On the side with the larger breast, my posture always seemed worse, because that breast never had the right support compared to the other one.

When I wear Symmetrista, my breasts sit at the right, even height, and my posture is better.

The biggest worry was always bending over or walking and moving quickly.

As a teenager at school, I'd need to grab something from my bag and the larger breast would slip slightly out of the bra. And then I'd have to shuffle around discreetly to get everything back in place, because I obviously couldn't just adjust it with my hands in front of everyone. It was exactly the same as an adult.

I've always had quite active jobs and at work I was constantly thinking about when I'd next get a moment alone to readjust. Symmetrista keeps everything in place and supported all day.

I was honestly a little shocked the first time I wore it, because I'd never felt support like this.

What difficulties have you experienced with traditional bras or other solutions?

Traditional bras never solved it. One would sit crooked on my back, too small for one breast or too big for the other. The straps needed constant adjusting. The larger breast would spill out from under the cup because there wasn't enough support. And clothes often didn't fit me well, because the larger breast looked off from the side without proper support.

What solutions did you use before discovering Symmetrista?

Before I found Symmetrista, I kept buying new bras, hoping that this one would finally be comfortable.

They'd feel fine in the fitting room, but the moment I started moving around, something would be wrong again. Wearing a bra was uncomfortable and exhausting and going without wasn't an option, because the cup was too big and the size difference was obvious. So I just wore the wrong bras and put up with it.

How did these solutions make you feel - both physically and emotionally?

There was a constant, low-level awareness that something was off. I could feel it, and I could see it. I was always adjusting, always planning out when I'd get the chance to fix things. It also showed up as bad posture in photos, always being a bit lopsided, and the frustration of standing in front of my wardrobe in the morning struggling to find something my breasts would actually look good in.

Have you ever talked about this openly with anyone before?

It didn't even occur to me to talk about it much. It just felt like my normality and I didn't know it could be better. It seems to be the main joke in every series and movie also that bras are supposed to be uncomfortable and I believed that's just the way it is.

Finding a bra made for asymmetrical breasts

I heard about Symmetrista through a friend's recommendation. I'll admit I had doubts at first.

I assumed the difference between my breasts wasn't big enough for it to be worth it. But trying Symmetrista made me realise how much the right bra matters even when the size difference is small.

The first time I wore it

What was your first impression when you tried the Symmetrista bra?

The first thing I loved was the look - classic, but beautiful. I had never worn a bra with such proper support, and I was amazed at how much more comfortable it was. I'd always assumed a bra was supposed to be uncomfortable. With Symmetrista, it felt like someone was hugging me!!

My breasts are exactly the same size, at the right height, and neither one falls out.

How has wearing Symmetrista affected your everyday life and confidence?

The difference in everyday life has been crazy. My posture is so much better. Clothes look better on me. I used to think some clothes just didn't suit me because of the bigger cup, but with Symmetrista that worry has disappeared, which made me realise it was the asymmetry all along.

This whole experience also changed how I think about my own body. I'm more aware of my asymmetry now, but I no longer feel embarrassed or uncomfortable about my breasts. That helpless feeling is gone because I know Symmetrista exists.

What surprised me most was the support. Something I'd genuinely never experienced before. The comfort, and how precisely the size calculator helped me find exactly the right fit.

How easy was ordering and finding your size?

Choosing a size and the ordering process were quick and easy. The site has very clear, simple measuring instructions. To be sure about my size, I emailed the team just in case and they confirmed the size before buying.

Would you buy again or recommend it to a friend?

Yes-yes-yesss! It's the comfort, the way it looks, how much better my clothes fit, and not having to spend all day wondering how my breasts look or whether I need to sneak off to a mirror.

If you could say something to your younger self (or to another woman with asymmetry), what would it be?

I would say to my younger self that this doesn't have to be a problem, and it doesn't have to be embarrassing. A really good solution has been made for exactly this.

I'd want a bra that supports me as well as my own hands do and that's Symmetrista for you.

Frequently asked questions

Is breast asymmetry normal?

Yes. Breast asymmetry is extremely common. In a UK survey of 740 women conducted by Norstat for Symmetrista, 25% reported having uneven breasts. Most women have some degree of difference between their breasts, whether or not it's noticeable.

What causes uneven breasts?

Breast asymmetry can be congenital (something you're born with) or develop later through hormonal changes, pregnancy and breastfeeding, or breast cancer treatment such as a lumpectomy or mastectomy followed by reconstruction.

What is the best bra for asymmetrical breasts?

The best bra for asymmetry supports both breasts equally without needing constant readjustment or removable pads that slip out of place. Symmetrista's Signature bra is made in one piece, with one cup up to five cm larger than the other, so it looks completely balanced from the outside while supporting each breast at its own size.

Do I need a big difference between my breasts for Symmetrista to help?

No. As this customer found, even a 2 cm size difference can make a conventional bra uncomfortable and ill-fitting. A bra built for your actual measurements makes a difference at any level of asymmetry.

How do I find my Symmetrista size?

Symmetrista's online size calculator walks you through measuring at home and recommends the right size for each cup. If you're unsure or your size is unavailable, the team can suggest the best alternative.
