The short answer
For most party dresses with straps or sleeves, the simplest choice is a bra with two different cup sizes built in, so each side fits without pads. For strapless, backless or halter dresses, fit the bigger side first, then even out the smaller side with a pad, a stick-on cup or a dressmaker's adjustment.
Why does a party dress show the difference more?
Party dresses sit closer to the body than most of what you wear on a normal day. Satin, a square neckline, a fitted bodice, thin straps.
A standard bra has two cups of the same size, so one of them is usually the wrong size for you. If it fits your larger side, the smaller cup stands away from you, and under a fitted bodice that gap shows as a dent or a crease. If it fits your smaller side, the larger cup can dig in.
The usual fix is a pad in the smaller cup. It holds while you stand still. Then you dance, hug a friend, reach across the table, and you find yourself checking the mirror in the bathroom more often than you'd like.
So a lot of women end up choosing the dress for what it hides. A higher neck. A looser cut. A busy print.

Which bra works with which party dress?

How do you test a party outfit before the night?
Give the dress and bra a proper rehearsal at home. Most surprises happen once you start moving.
- 1Sit down. A fitted bodice shifts when you sit, and that's often when a gap opens.
- 2Raise both arms, as if you're dancing.
- 3Lean forward, as if you're picking up your bag or hugging someone.
- 4Look from the side. Then take a photo with the flash on, which can show outlines through thin fabric that a mirror misses.
- 5Wear it for an hour. Pads and stick-on cups tend to move as you warm up.

Can I wear the Signature Bra under a strapless dress?
The Signature Bra has adjustable straps, so it suits dresses with straps or sleeves. For a strapless dress, a strapless bra sized for your larger side, with a pad in the smaller cup, is the usual option. A dressmaker can also adjust cups that are sewn into the dress.
Will people be able to tell my bra is different?
From the outside it looks like a regular bra. The padding is moulded into the smaller cup, so there's no separate insert to shift or show through the dress.
What colour bra should I wear under a pale party dress?
